The film story is set in the old time. It is a story of a boy who saw the film for the first time, and his dream and seeds of passion begin for creating a film projector from there.
Its trailer says it all, why it is India's official entry for Oscar in the Best foreign language film category.
The film is set in the old era of Indian cinema when people used to watch films on the projector screen and a young boy who saw the film for the first time was amazed by its beauty and magic.
Samay, a 9-year-old boy living with his family in a remote village in western Gujarat. He worked in his father's tea stall shop, to sell tea at railway station.
One day he went to the cinema hall for the first time with his family to watch a film on the projector screen. He was mesmerized by the beauty of films.
Later he skips school and went to the theatre to watch films against his father's wishes, who beats him for skipping school.
In spite of his father's anger he returns to the cinema hall to watch the film again, even he befriends a projectionist, Fazal who allows him to watch films for free in exchange for his lunch.
He was so astonished by the projector light that he realizes that light becomes stories and stories become films.
But his enthusiasm was shattered when single- screen cinema hall was closed due to the new evolution of cinema.
He then set his mind and with his wild gangs of friends move heaven and earth to catch and project light to achieve a 35mm film projection.
Together with his friends, he used an innovative hack to successfully build a projection apparatus. But for his dreams, he has to leave a few things behind.
The film is directed by Pan Nalin and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapoor, Pan Nalin, Dheer Momaya, and Mark Duale.
