Why CBI Raided Delhi Dy CM Manish Sisodia Residence-

CBI team came into action when Delhi Lt. Governor V K Saxena last month complains about irregularities in the implementation of the excise policy 2021-22, which is withdrawn in July. He also suspended 11 officials including Excise Commissioner Krishna and demanded a CBI probe on this matter.

In this new revamped policy licenses for liquor shops were given to private players and also fees to gain the license of opening a shop was high. The sole aim of this policy was to generate more revenue through liquor sales and reduce corruption.

This policy is withdrawn in July due to alleged irregularities in its distribution of licenses and gaining commission.

Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar submitted a report and claimed that there are irregularities in the distribution of licenses and provided post-tender benefits to licensees.

Delhi's Chief Secretary has alleged that the Delhi excise department, under direct orders of Sisodia, allowed a waiver of Rs 144.36 crore to the liquor cartel on the tendered licence fee, under the excuse of the Covid pandemic

The report also alleged that this decision was not approved by the competent authority, which is a cabinet and the Lt. Governor.

After this report, Delhi Lt. Governor recommended a CBI probe on Delhi excise policy.
