Children’s Day Special: Every year in India, the 14th of November is widely celebrated as “Children’s Day” to pay tribute to India’s 1st Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, fondly known as “Chacha Nehru”. On this day, awareness is being spread regarding the education, care, and rights of Children. For this, various motivational and educational programs have been organized all over India. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru once beautiful quoted,

‘The Children of today will make the India of tomorrow. The way we bring them up will determine the future of the country’

Children’s Day History

India’s first PM, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, popularly known as Chacha Nehru had a deep liking for children and roses. He considers children to be the FUTURE of the nation. Since he was born on 14th November, this day is widely accepted and celebrated in his name. He also served free meals and primary education at schools during his tenure.

Before the death of PM Nehru, Children’s Day was celebrated on 20th November (Universal Children’s Day as per United Nations). Just to mention, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru established educational institutions like IITs, IIMs, and AIIMS to offer supreme quality of education and knowledge to aspiring students.

Important Rights of Children

As per the Indian Constitution, these are some of the important rights of children,

Right to receive free primary education for children of age between 6-14 years

Right to be protected from all sorts of abuse

Right to be protected from early employment

Right to equal facilities and opportunities

Right to dignity, freedom, and guaranteed protection against exploitation

Right to get care and education
