Crohn's Disease: Symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis, Management & Treatment

What is Crohn's Disease?

Crohn's Disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn’s disease generates your digestive tract to evolve bloated and painful. You might encounter signs like an abdominal ache, diarrhea, weight loss, and rectal bleeding. This is a lifetime disease that doesn’t have any scientific cure till now. However, it can happen to any part of the gastrointestinal system.

What are the causes?

There is no particular reason behind the lifelong disease but there are some factors that increase the risk. Here are the factors:

  1. Autoimmune disease: The immunity system of the body kills the good bacteria cell of the body.
  2. Genes: These diseases run in the family veins, if someone has suffered from this disease in the past it may affect their family members.
  3. Smoking: Smoking increases the risk of Crohn's Disease twice

Symptoms

If you are suffering from Crohn's Disease, your body might show some signs like:

  1. Weight loss
  2. Fever
  3. Abnormal pain
  4. Fullness in the stomach
  5. Skin tags especially near the butt
  6. Rectal bleeding
  7. Anal fissures
  8. Anal fistulas
  9. Loss of appetite
  10. Diarrhea

Diagnosis

If you have these symptoms, you might be suffering from Crohn's Disease. It is better to get diagnosed as soon as possible. So it can be treated by a doctor. A doctor might suggest some of the tests:

  1. Blood test: A blood test is used to check the red blood cell and white blood cells in the system which indicate the infection in the system.
  2. Stool test: The stool test is used for bacteria in the system which causes Crohn's Disease
  3. Colonoscopy: The doctor tests the colon through light and camera to observe any signs of Crohn's Disease. The doctor may take the tissue sample to check the sign of infection.
  4. CT Scan: A CT Scan will capture the image digestive tract, so it makes it easy to see any sign of infection in the gastrointestinal system.

Management and treatment

There is no particular cure for Crohn's Disease, but with a little precaution and management, you can live an active and normal life with it. The treatment completely depends on what is causing the disease and how much you are affected by it.

  1. Medication and Antibiotic: Antibiotics and medication help to control the infection and other symptoms of Crohn's Disease.
  2. Biologics: This is a type of meditation that helps to turn antibodies and suppress the effects of Crohn's Disease.
  3. Bowel rest: The Bowel rest helps to heal the intestines, there will be some specific food and liquid which are allowed, it will help the system to cure.
  4. Surgery: The surgery will not cure the disease but will help to control the side effects of Crohn's Disease.
  5. Immunomodulators: Immunomodulators are drugs that help to suppress infection and control the overactive immune system.
