There are several stars who appeared in T.V. commercials before ruling over the silver screen. Making a stable career in the industry isn't that easy after all. Life isn't a cakewalk, and it wasn't so for our favorite stars. We have a list of Bollywood celebrities who used to work in T.V. commercials before they got their big break.
1. Preity Zinta
Preity Zinta started off with her career in modeling after completing her graduation in Criminal Psychology and English Honors. She first appeared in the Perk chocolate television commercial and further did various other commercials, including Liril soap. In 1998, she entered Bollywood with her film Dil Se.
2. Salman Khan
Salman Khan appeared in a Limca commercial around three years before he signed up for his debut movie Biwi Ho To Aisi in 1988. This ad portrayed Salman Khan playing football. This old Indian ad will make you feel nostalgic. Who knew then that he would rule over all hearts someday.
3. Shahid Kapoor
Shahid Kapoor appeared in a Complan TV commercial along with Ayesha Takia. Shahid started his career in Bollywood as a background dancer years after playing the "Complan boy." On the other hand, Ayesha Takia worked in various music videos and signed Taarzan: The Wonder Car as her debut movie in 2004.
4. Boman Irani
Boman Irani is one of the Bollywood celebrities who did all kinds of odd jobs before making an entry in Bollywood. He is one of the finest examples portraiting it's never too late to take off. He appeared on the silver screen for the first time in the film Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. Before his debut in Bollywood, he played Mr. Jack in Parle G Krackjak's ad.
5. Rajkumar Hirani
Rajkumar Hirani is a well-known name in the industry for having directed various successful films like 3 Idiots, Munna Bhai M.B.B.S., PK, etc. Before he grabbed his position as one of the best filmmakers in the industry, he tried his luck in several different areas. He tried to work as a film editor and then moved towards the advertising industry. He appeared in a television commercial by Fevicol, "Jor Laga Ke Haisha." While he was always interested in film making, he quit advertising after some time and started working with Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
6. Vidya Balan
Before her debut in the acting career, Vidya Balan appeared in the commercial for Surf washing powder. Further, she got a chance to work in the 90's superhit sitcom, "Hum Paanch," where she played Radhika, a teenager who wears spectacles. She made her debut in films with a Bengali drama, Bhalo Theko, and then appeared in Parineeta, receiving great applauds.
7. Vivek Oberoi
Vivek Oberoi made his Bollywood debut with Ram Gopal Verma's Company, which became a super hit. Before playing Chandu, he appeared in the controversial T.V. commercial by New York Lotto. It became one of the banned commercials in India.
8. Deepika Padukone
Deepika started working very early as a child model when she was just eight. She appeared in various advertising campaigns. She was seen in the ad for Close Up and Liril Soap. She was also considered for being featured in Himesh Reshammiya's muss video, "Naam Hai Tera." Later she was offered Om Shanti Om and made a debut in Bollywood.
9. Anushka Sharma
Anushka Sharma appeared in many commercials before making her Bollywood debut through Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. She made a gorgeous appearance in the Sebolin commercial. Before Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, she appeared in the poster of Lage Raho Munna Bhai, although she didn't act in it.
10. Varun Dhawan
Varun Dhawan started off with acting as a child actor and appeared in an advertising campaign for Bournvita. He looks extremely cute in the ad video, and you cannot just get over it. Before appearing in his debut film, Student Of The Year, he worked as an assistant director to Karan Johar for My Name Is Khan, starring Shah Rukh Khan.
11. Siddharth Malhotra
Siddharth started modeling four years before his Bollywood debut. He appeared in the commercial for Ponds. Later, like Varun, he joined Karan Johar as his assistant director for My Name Is Khan.
