7 Bollywood Movies Remake That Failed To Meet Up The Magic Of Originals

The saying "Old is Gold" goes absolutely well in many situations. The one we're going to discuss today is Bollywood. Movie remakes have been an older trend in Bollywood. There are many instances in the industry where filmmakers have copied or taken inspiration from even Hollywood and Tollywood movies. To name a few, we have Kabir Singh, Rowdy Rathore, 3 idiots, Tere Naam, and many more. In fact, there are times when Bollywood classics were remade too. But we all know, many of them didn't work out many of the times. We thought of taking you back to the ones that failed to impress the audience.

1. Aag | 2007

This movie was one of the biggest flops at the box-office, made by Ram Gopal Verma. It was the remake of the cult classic movie Sholay, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Amjad Khan, Hema Malini, and Sanjeev Kumar. We all know that the original movie was a super hit and evens kids remember the dialogues from it. However, Aag got a 2.2 IMDB rating and counted among the 100 worst films ever.

Although the film had a great casting including Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, and Sushmita Sen, it somehow turned out to be a disaster. When compared in terms of money, the film earned only 7 crores at the box office. On the other hand, the original movie Sholay ran for about five years in the theatres and earned Rs 30 crore in 1975.

2. Agneepath |2012

Agneepath was the remake of the 90s original that starred Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty, Rohini Hattangadi, Neelam Kothari, and Danny Denzongpa. The remake was made by Karan Johar as an emotional tribute to his father Yash Johar. In the remake, Amitabh's character was played by Hrithik who performed absolutely well. However, the remake still could not match the level of the original one. It wasn't a complete flop but it received an average response at the box-office.

3. Karzzz | 2008

Karzzz (2008) was directed by Satish Kaushik, as a Hindi thriller movie starring Himesh Reshammiya and Urmila Matondkar. The Original Karz from the 90s was inspired by The Reincarnation Of Peter Proud Although the remake featured the same reincarnation story, the one starring Rishi Kapoor was magical.

4. Himmatwala | 2013

It's one of the movies that don't need a special introduction. Well, it's the remake of the Bollywood classic with the same name and Jitendra in the lead role. The action-comedy classic was the remake of a Telugu film Ooruki Monagadu. The classic Bollywood movie in 1983 was one of the biggest commercial successes that earned ₹50 million. It was the highest-grossing in 1983 and tenth-highest in the 1980s. However, the remake by Sajid Khans, featuring Ajay Devgn turned out to be a disaster.

5. Khoobsurat | 2014

Although the remake starring Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and Fawad Khan cannot be called a remake, it was quite similar to the film Khsoobsurat from 1980. While thes2014 movie was one of the best performances by Sonam Kapoor, it somehow failed to perform at the box office. Also, the original movie, starring Rekha and Rakesh Roshan was way more charming with their beautiful performances.

6. Pati, Patni Aur Woh | 2019

Pati, Patni Aur Woh has been made legitally 3 times now. While the movies had the same name, all of them portrayed a slightly different concept from one another. The latest remake in 2019 featured Kartik Aryan, Bhumi Pednekar, and Ananya Panday as lead characters. Although the movie was a super hit at the box office, it still could not meet up with the charm of the original.

7. Coolie No.1 | 2020

Released on Amazon Prime Video a few days back, Coolie No.1 is the remake of the 1995 film with the same name. While the original movie featured Govinda and Karisma Kapoor, the remake has Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan in lead roles. While both movies are directed by David Dhawan and the original one was the first success for Karisma Kapoor along with one of the best performances by Govinda; the remake failed drastically in recreating the magic.

Indeed, some things are the best done for the first time.
