‘Toofaan’ Review: Farhan Akhtar, Rakeysh Mehra Win Heart With Yet Another Athlete Drama

Farhan Akhtar starrer ‘Toofaan’ was released on Amazon Prime on July 16. Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the film follows the journey of a Mumbai thug Aziz Ali, played by Farhan who rises to the top as a boxing champion. 

The film has won hearts with its captivating screenplay. The boxing scenes in the film are well choreographed. Farhan Akhtar has swayed the audience and critiques equally with his acting skills. The complex character of coach Narayan Prabhu played by Paresh Rawal is marvelous. Besides the story and acting, the overall execution of the film by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is what makes the film extraordinary and inspirational. 

Film director Ashutosh Gowariker has compared the film with the western cinema of Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro. 

The film has stirred a debate on love jihad which is a major theme in the film. 

‘Toofaan’ is being compared to Mehra’s previous blockbusters such as ‘Rang De Basanti’ and ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’. The comparison led to mixed reviews by viewers and critics and only time will tell if the film will surpass the expectations.
