Fed Up Of Stretch Marks? Here Is How To Get Rid Of Stretch Marks

The skin covers the whole body, thus it can be stretched or shrunk according to the body. But sometimes the tissue of the body gets cracked which causes stretch marks. Around 50%-90% of people have stretch marks on their skin. They are not harmful or don’t mean anything but can be unpleasant. Here is how to get rid of stretch marks.

What are Stretch marks?

Skin is the largest organ that covers all over the body and can be changed according to body growth. When the skin gets into a sudden change it may show some stretch marks, well known as striae. The change in the shape of the body, when covered with skin, the skin gets cracked these marks are known as stretch marks. The protein of the skin i.e. collagen gets broken down in the skin, which results in stretch marks.

Type of Stretch marks

The stretch marks have two stages: first when they are red or purple in color and second when these stretch marks turn into white pale color. 

Red/ Purple stretch marks: These marks are the start of the stretch marks, it is easy to get rid of these marks as the protein is easily renewed.

White stretch marks: When the red or purple marks get older they become white and thinner which are more difficult to get rid of and take longer. 

Reasons for Stretch marks

There are various reasons for stretch marks, some of the reasons are:

  1. Pregnancy
  2. Puberty
  3. Weight gain
  4. Weight loss
  5. Muscle growth

Stretch marks can be visible on various parts of the body, like:

  1. Knees
  2. Arms
  3. Hips 
  4. Shoulder
  5. Back

As they say “ Prevention is better than cure”, here are some of the prevention methods which might protect the body from stretch marks. 

  1. Moisturize skin daily
  2. Hydration
  3. Balanced diet
  4. Manage weight

Home remedies for stretch marks

There are various cures and creams in the market which treat stretch marks but they have heavy chemicals and harmful solutions in them. Here are some of the home remedies which have no side effects and can help you in lightening the stretch marks.

1. Aloe vera

Aloe vera is a magical plant that is well known for its healing properties. It helps in boosting the collagen tissue in the body and smoothens the skin. 

How to use:

Cut the aloe vera leaf, extract the pulp out. Massage the gel on the stretch marks and leave it for 20-30 minutes for best results. 

2. Sugar

Sugar is clinically approved as it is filled with microdermabrasion, which is one of the most effective ways to lighten the stretch marks. It smooths the skin and makes the skin glow. 

How to use:

Mix 1 spoon sugar with some drops of Vitamin E or essential oils, mix it well. Apply this mixture on the stretch marks and rub it in a circular motion for a few minutes.

3. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil hydrates the skin and moisturizes skin. Coconut oil is a well-known cure to remove marks from the body. It has healing properties and restores the skin tissues. 

How to use:

Coconut oil is a natural remedy, apply the raw coconut oil to the stretch marks 2-3 times a day. 

4. Baking Soda and Lemon

Lemon is a proven way of lightening the skin and removing the redness of the marks which makes them less visible. Whereas baking soda is effective for removing dead skin cells. 

How to use:

Mix 1 spoon of baking soda with lemon, apply the mixture to the stretch marks, and wrap them for 10-20 minutes. Wash it off with cold water.

5. Potato juice

Potato juice is a well-known cure for dark circles and stretch marks. The juice is filled with starch and other skin-lightening properties. As well as the bleaching properties, which helps in lightening the scars and brightening the skin. 

How to use:

Grate a potato and extract the juice from it. Mix the juice and grated pulp together. Apply the mixture for 30 minutes and wash it off with cold water.
