Mimi Movie Review: Pankaj Tripathi, Kriti Sanon Take Audience On Emotional Rollercoaster 

The comedy-drama ‘Mimi’ explores the topic of surrogacy in lower-middle-class India with a lighthearted tone. Starring Kriti Sanon and Pankaj Tripathi in lead roles, ‘Mimi’ is a laughter riot along with an emotional message. It’s an adaptation of the 2010 Marathi film Mala Aai Vhhaychy (I Want To Be A Mother).

Directed by Laxman Utekar, the movie follows the cinematic settings of his previous movies like ‘Luka Chuppi’, ‘Bala’ and ‘Hindi Medium’. There is a middle-class household, regional language, funny desi one-liners and a female protagonist breaking all indigenous stereotypes.The movie ‘Mimi’ was released on Netflix on July 26.

‘Mimi’ Movie: The Plot

‘Mimi’ follows the story of a dancer Mimi (Kriti Sanon) who agrees to be a surrogate mother to an American couple. Couple's driver Bhanu (Pankaj Tripathi) convinces Mimi for the job. The first half of the film is a hilarious take on surrogacy and its acceptance in middle-class Indian society.

The movie takes an emotional turn in the second half and both Sanon and Tripathi grip the audience with their authentic performance.

Mimi Movie Review: Performance, Direction & Storyline

The star cast of the film definitely rises above the limitations of the script with their outstanding performances. The supporting cast includes seasoned actors like Manoj Pahwa, Supriya Pathak, Atmaja Pandey and Jaya Bhattacharya.

The flawless direction of the film makes it authentic to its setting. The camera follows the character and depicts their inner turmoil/ joy. Music by A R Rehman is undoutedly superb.

The storyline takes a preachy turn in the second half which might kill the buzz for some people but overall ‘Mimi’ wins its audience with its complete package.

The release date of the movie ‘Mimi’ was July 27 but the film was released 4 days early after it was leaked online.
