IT Raid On Sonu Sood's House In Mumbai

A shocking report came from B-town today as Bollywood Actor Sonu Sood's house in Mumbai and a company in Lucknow allegedly linked to him were raided by the Income Tax department.

"A deal between Sonu Sood's company and a Lucknow-based real estate firm is currently being tracked under the scanner. We have initiated the survey operation on allegations of tax evasion on this said deal," stated the Income Tax department said.

The tax raids is the result of actor's high-profile meeting with Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Chief Minister who recently declared him the brand ambassador for his government's mentorship programme. Sonu Sood had later came out and denied any plans for a politics based debut with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Sonu Sood's humanitarian efforts got him a great fan base in the past year during Covid-19.

The actor won wide appreciation for his charity work during the Covid-19 crisis. He helped a number of migrant workers reach home by organising buses and rides for them. And helped people get oxygen when India was hit by the deadly second wave. With no previous inclination in politics, speculation went wild post his meeting with the AAP chief, Kejriwal and rumours concluded the actor may contest next year's Punjab election allegedly.

The tax searches are said to have been linked by many to the meeting. "There is no relation between them. Any person can meet anyone. It is just a search. It's not necessary that the person who does charity has done anything wrong... It must be something small. Income Tax is doing its job," Asif Bhamla, BJP spokesperson, said.

But the BJP's critics outraged at the tax action. AAP leader Raghav Chaddha says: "IT raid on a man as good as Sonu Sood, somebody who has been a messiah to lakhs of people, somebody who helped the needy. If a man like him can be politically targeted shows that the current regimen is insensitive and insecure politically."

The BJP's former ally Shiv Sena also spoke of the tax searches. "I am in shock. Sonu Sood has helped lakhs of people, for tax people to search his properties... I don't believe he can do anything illegal," said Anand Dubey, Shiv Sena leader.
