Possible Reasons For the Crash of IAF Chopper Carrying Gen Bipin Rawat

On Wednesday, an Indian Air Force helicopter smashed near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu. The helicopter was carrying General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, Lt Col Harijinder Singh, Brigadier LS Lidder, and 11 others. The staff was heading to Defence Staff College to attend an event along with Chief of Army Staff Gen MM Naravane in Wellington.

Unexpectedly, Gen Rawat, his wife, and others died in the crash. The Ministry of Defence has taken the issue in hand and has come up with possible reasons that led to the crash of the IAF chopper.

4 Possible Reasons For The Crash

1. Bad Weather

Reports suggest bad weather could be a possible reason for the crash of the IAF Mi-17V5 chopper. Bad weather is responsible for creating foggy conditions and low visibility.

The former helicopter pilot, Amitabh Ranjan informed, ‘The main culprit always has been the weather. Weather in these hills is nasty, at best, and currently, the weather in this sector is not very good, very clear. The weather could be one of the factors’.

2. Mechanical Failure

Amitabh Ranjan also stated, ‘The helicopters are not new. The pilots are best trained and the best professionals we can expect to fly such dignitaries. These are very good and reliable helicopters and are being used for the airlift of VVIPs also’

To say that either the helicopter or the crew is at fault is conjecture at this point. There would be something technical error for which a board of inquiry is organized and submits its findings’ Ranjan added.

3. Power Lines

Since the location was far away from human habitation, speculations are made about the entangled in power lines stating the crash of CDS Gen Bipin Rawat Chopper.

4. Height of Flying Chopper

The Indian Air Force is determining the height at which the helicopter was flying before crashing in the Katteri-Nanchappanchathram area of Nilgiris district.

The examination of mangled and burnt remaining of IAF chopper is ongoing and very soon we will know the actual reasons behind the crash.
