Many high profile names came up in the Latest Retention Indian Premier League (IPL) List including Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kane Williamson, etc.
Few well-performing youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammad Siraj and Ruturaj Gaikwad, too avoided being auctioned. Some of the star players missed the retention contract and now would be auctioned during the IPL mega auction taking place in December 2021 or January 2022. There are several reasons why some of them did not make the retention list.
The most basic reason was the cap on retained players which is four, and secondly, it was workable for the franchise to release some of them who demanded a high price, for example, Chris Morris, who joined Rajasthan Royals for an amount of INR 18 crore. Some talented cricketers like Rashid Khan or Shahrukh Khan can possibly be taken in by their previous franchise.
Here are the star names who failed to get a retention contract from their respective franchises:
Chennai Super Kings: Suresh Raina, Robin Uthappa (could be bought back), Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Faf du Plessis (could be bought back in the auction).
