Top Places To Visit In The Golden City Of Rajasthan, Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer is the heart of the Thar desert, Rajasthan. It is well known as “Golden City” because of the presence of sand in it. It shines like gold in the sunlight. The city is filled with culture and forts. The best time to visit the place is between October to March when the temperature is 10 degrees celsius to 25 degrees celsius.

  1. Jaisalmer Fort

One of the largest Forts in the world. It was built in 1156 by King Rawal Jaisal. It does not only have a palace but has all the town in it. Also known as “Golden Fort” or “Sonar Qila”.

The  Golden fort stands for 250ft wall and is surrounded by 30ft tall walls. It was named “Trikut Garh” as it is triangular in shape. You can see Hindu and Muslim references in the architecture of the fort as it had passed between many rulers.

Timings: 9 am to 5 pm

  1. Gadisar Lake

The lake is also dug up by the first ruler Rawal Jaisal. It is famous for its view, boat riding, and bird watching. This is an artificial lake that used to provide water to the whole city.

It was also called Jaisalasar Lake but the lake was rebuilt by king Gadasi Singh.

Timing: 25 hours

Entry Fees: Free

  1. Dessert National Park

The one of its kind, Dessert National Park is one of the largest parks in India. The park covers 3162 km sq Jaisalmer or Barmer to India- Pak border. The beautiful desert park has the beauty of nature in it. You can get surprised with the wildlife it has to offer you.

Timing: 10am to 5pm

Foreigner- Rs. 300

Camel Safari is also available but that is negotiable.

  1. Jain Temples

The temple is in Jaisalmer Fort, this temple has its religious value. These are dedicated to four gods Rishabhdev, Sambhavnath, Chandraprabhu, and Parsvanath. It is crafted with designs of gods and celestial women.

Timing: 8 am to 12 pm

  1. Jaisalmer war museum

The museum was built in honor of a martyr in the Battle of Longewala in 1971. The idea was pitched by Lieutenant General Bobby Mathews. It was built to represent the military history of Jaisalmer.

Timing: 10am to 6pm
