History of Vijay Diwas

December 3 marked the beginning of Indo-Pakistan in 1971. The war lasted for a period of 13 days. On December 16, Pakistan surrendered before India with around 93,000 soldiers. This resulted in the formation of Bangladesh.

At 4:30 pm, Lt General Jagjit Singh Arora and General Niazi sat aside to come up with the surrender paperwork. After the announcement of the victory, the Parliament House exploded in joy. On the other side, Indira Gandhi conducts a TV interview at the Parliament house Office.

Significance of Vijay Diwas

Vijay Diwas commemorates the triumph of India over Pakistan. The result of the 1971 war is the creation of East Pakistan, which is now Bangladesh. 8000 soldiers Pakistan soldiers lost their lives and 25000 were wounded while the Indian Army lost 3000 soldiers and 12000 wounded in the war. Since then, Vijay Diwas is celebrated in remembrance of our brave and courageous soldiers. This was India’s BIGGEST victory ever against Pakistan.

What Indian Defense Minister Calls The Vijay Diwas?

On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, defense minister Rajnath Singh called it a ‘golden chapter in India’s military history and tweeted,
