#INDvsPAK: Fans Target Mohammad Shami After India’s Defeat

India endured a 10-wicket defeat against Pakistan in the ever anticipated T20 Men's Cricket World Cup match on 24th October 2021, Sunday. Remorseful fans of India began to make the Indian team's pacer, Mohammad Shami, a target on social media.

He is the only Muslim player in the team and was being accused of taking bribes from the opponent team to lose the match. The target of 151 runs to win set by India, was achieved by Pakistan without losing a wicket and 2 overs to spare.

With, Virat Kohli (57) and Rishabh Pant (39) Indian team posted 151/7 in 20 overs. The pair was the recovery for the team after Pakistan brought them to 36/3 in just the powerplay. Mohammad Rizwan (79*) and Babar Azam (68*) altogether chased down India's 151/7 as they recorded a 10 wicket victory. It was the first match of both teams in the 2021 T20 World Cup. It was the first and only defeat for India with Pakistan in the men's cricket World Cup match.

Shami bowled the 18th over of the match, gave away 17 runs in five balls. This did not settle down well with the Indian fans, who then retorted to social media to question the Indian player's integrity and dignity given his Muslim identity. Saddened by the open Islamophobia, many of the fans have urged Cricketer Virat Kohli and the team members to stand in solidarity with Shami, and express it publicly.
